Two leaders in engineering services Latvian holding company LNK Group and Russian Group of Companies Progresstech found joint venture "Centre Composite", Ltd in 2011.

The main activity is to develop mathematical models of the most important structures in aerospace and other industries to determine their strength characteristics of the calculation methods.

"Centre Composite" major outcome, based on the modern world achievements in the field of heterogeneous structures mechanics and numerical analysis methods, is:

  • to develop and implement the applied techniques for analyzing of static and dynamic behavior of structural elements made of composite materials and metal;
  • to perform the specific computational and experimental work related to composite and metal products analysis and design;
  • to support the design and certification documents issue.

"Centre Composite" together with the Riga Scientific Experimental Centre "Aviatest" Ltd. - conducts experimental samples test to determine the physic-mechanical characteristics of laminated composite materials under static and high-force loading with the effects of temperature, humidity and time factors, and also performs computational and analytical support of industrial components and assemblies made ​​of composite materials full-scale tests carried out by customers in the regional test bases.

1. Strength and failure analysis of aircraft composite parts

  • Finite-element modeling
  • Verification and validation with static test results

2. Developing analytical and numerical methods and designing automated routines to estimate the behavior of advanced composite materials and structures under static, dynamic, and thermal loading

  • Failure and buckling of laminated panels under combined static loading
  • Strength of mechanically fastened composite joints and assemblies
  • Impact force, damage and compressive residual strength of composite panels
  • Weight optimization of skin and stringer dimensions and ply stacking sequence of flat stiffened panels
  • Progressive failure analysis of panels with holes and cracks
  • Evaluation of thermal residual stresses generated during the processing of carbonfiber reinforced epoxy composites

3. Design of experiments, planning test program, and processing test results

  • Designing proper test fixtures and loading schemes for isolated structural testing of composite parts
  • Test program planning (bearing/bypass evaluation of mechanically fastened joints, falling weight impact test)
  • Processing results and calculating statistically based material properties
